Matisse Software Announces Matisse 8, the Next-Generation Data Management Platform
Matisse 8 responds to customers’ growing need for management of information that goes beyond relational data on x86 64-bit servers.

Mountain View, CA - August 1, 2006 – Matisse Software today announces the immediate availability of Matisse 8, the next-generation data management platform to build and deploy cost effective dynamic data-driven applications on the x86_64 platform.

Matisse 8 is designed to help organizations manage and protect explosive data growth while controlling costs without compromising security and reliability. This new version of Matisse provides a comprehensive data management solution on the x86 platform with the addition of Matisse x64 (64-bit Edition) to the product family and also simplifies administration of distributed database servers with the newly redesigned Enterprise Manager.

“Our customers need to manage today a continuously growing volume of complex inter-related information; with Matisse 8, they have the most cost-effective solution on the x86 platform to build and run scalable data-driven applications and services,” said Didier Cabannes, President and CEO of Matisse Software. “For instance, running Matisse x64 on an Opteron-powered server farm provides a leading edge to drive rapid revenue growth to our customers who are delivering on-demand services”.

Matisse 8 also includes an enhanced version of the popular Matisse .NET binding which fully takes advantage of the new .NET 2.0 features. The Matisse 8 and Visual Studio 2005 combination represents one of the best value propositions in the marketplace to implement scalable data-driven applications on the Windows platform. Matisse greatly simplifies the architecture of applications by integrating its unique reusable SQL components technology to the Visual Studio .NET environment. This feature alone typically cuts the length of application code by 30% to 50%, thus paying off in terms of faster time-to-market due to shorter database development cycles.

“Matisse 8 remains the ultimate database for .NET as it simplifies and accelerates development through the fusion of native object support and SQL,” said Claude Ezran, Vice President of Marketing of Matisse Software. “Our product offers an unequaled value proposition to .NET developers who require high performance on complex data that goes beyond the modeling capabilities of relational products such as SQL Server 2005.”

Some of the specific advantages of Matisse 8 include:

  • Reduced application complexity with direct object-to-object mapping.
  • Simplified and accelerated development through the fusion of native object support and SQL.
  • Full remote administration of distributed Matisse database servers on a local network.
  • Significantly improved throughput and no logging burden with the unique versioning engine.
  • No schema modification downtime with dynamic schema evolution.
  • No need for a dedicated database administrator with the self-tuning and self-healing features of Matisse.
  • Future-proofed application development with comprehensive standards support and an extensible meta-model.
  • Flexible access to external data sources and application development and reporting tools with ODBC and JDBC support.
  • Protection for mission critical applications with 24x7 proven high availability through data replication with database mirroring and fault-tolerant database server.
  • Support for virtually all object languages with extensive language bindings and an open API.

“I am very excited by the availability of Matisse 8,” said Ognian Pishev, Director, at Ocean Informatics, an Australian developer of health records management systems and financial services applications. “The new 64-bit support for x86_64 processors and the fact that all Matisse databases on a LAN can now be remotely administered from a single workstation will be of tremendous value to our customers; this will enable them to easily scale up their database applications and ramp up as fast as their businesses are growing. We are looking forward to exploring the new 64-bit support for x86 processors in our openEHR electronic health record architecture.”

Matisse 8 supports the popular server platforms with Windows, Linux and Solaris, J2EE and .NET frameworks, SQL and XML standards, and a broad range of language bindings including Java, C++, C, C#, VB.NET, Python, Perl, PHP, Smalltalk and Eiffel. Most language bindings are published as open source software.
